Eugene M. Adler, 99, died on Sept. 17 at his home in Glencoe. Mr. Adler was born in Elgin on March 1 , 1897. He is survived by his wife, Eugenie C. Adler of Glencoe; a daughter, Constance Adler of Albuquerque, N.M.; his brother and sister, Theodore Adler and Irene A. Rome; and grandchildren Linda Adler Kassner, Jacqueline Meyer Thorman, and William L. Meyer; and one great-grandchild, Nora Kassner. A son and daughter, Robert Adler and Mary Adler Kramer, died before him.

Eugene M. Adler, 99, a merchandise supervisor for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 40 years, died Tuesday at his home in Glencoe.

Born in Elgin on March 1, 1897, Mr. Adler resided in Illinois his entire life, attending the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for two years and completing officer training at Navy Pier during World War I. He served stateside as a Navy ensign.

Mr. Adler spent much of his business career with Sears, overseeing merchandising for all the retail stores and catalog operations, said his wife, Eugenie C. Adler. Mr. Adler also helped found the Kellwood Co., a manufacturer of men's and boys' clothing for Sears, and was a board member at Whirlpool for 12 years, his wife said. After he retired in 1960, Mr. Adler worked as an independent financial consultant for Sears and various individual clients. Mr. Adler contributed to the Adler Planetarium, named for his paternal uncle, Max Adler, his wife said. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Constance Adler of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Theodore Adler; a sister, Irene A. Rome, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements are private.
